Yes, the lens is compatible with the D5100.

Yes it is and I use it myself on the D7000.
On DX cameras (e.g. D500) this lens is excellent.

Conclusion - on DX : Highly recommended.

Yes, this lens is weather resistant.

No, this is a Nikon lens for Nikon DSLRs. I wouldn't do it with an adapter either, it's never a satisfactory solution. Moreover, the 16-80 has an electronic aperture adjustment and no longer a mechanical one. That should dispel any belief that it will somehow work on a Canon camera.
