Thanks for the answers, Virginia Perrotta. I'm surprised that the 2big Dock is supposed to have raid capabilities - because LaCie explicitly offers the 2big RAID product. I had imagined that I would either get two individual, independent hard drives (where the failure of one does not affect the second), or a complete hard drive package (with the risk of data loss if one of the two drives fails) - previously known to me as JBoD. However, the answer now says that JBoD is exactly the opposite, i.e. two volumes which, as I understand it, should not cause any data loss to each other if one drive fails. As an alternative, I would have to buy two external drives with an enclosure, and I'm not hearing much good from LaCie, now Seagate.

- Yes, all 2big docks are the same, only capacity is different. - APFS possible, but HFS+ partly more stable for HDD. - In the Finder depending on the mode: RAID 0/1 = 1 volume, JBOD = 2 volumes. - Partitioning is possible, depending on the RAID setup. - Daisy-chaining possible with TB3/TB2 adapter, bandwidth is shared.

Hello, I am using Lacie 2 Big Dock 20GB RAID 1 older model gray. The disk will be full soon. I am thinking of buying Lacie 2 Big Dock 48GB RAID 1. Is it possible that these disks will work together? Can they be connected to each other? Or will they simply be connected individually to my IMac. as two different storage devices?

How much electricity do these appliances consume? Difficult to compare if this information is regularly missing & yes, it's a pity that very few people are interested in energy, it just comes from the socket and/or the roof.

The power supply is rated at 60W, but the exact power consumption in operation is not known. We haven't found a report, and the manufacturer makes no mention of this. To get an answer, we'd have to measure consumption at the outlet with a suitable device, but we don't have the ability to do that. Sorry, we can't provide a more accurate answer.

What is the difference between LaCie 2big Dock (e.g. 28TB) Black to Silver? Article no. 21479073 (black) Article no. 10952874 (silver) Apart from an additional card slot in the bottom right front (black version), only the price and colour seem to be different. Is silver perhaps an older version? If so, why is it considerably more expensive?

The silver external hard drive 10952874 has actually still been in our range since 2020 and has been completely sold out at almost all suppliers for some time. Some suppliers still sell the remaining stock. This variant used to be much cheaper - but the current purchasing conditions lead to a higher price. The black variant has been on sale since 2022. Such price differences cannot always be attributed to the technical properties. Since we work with different suppliers, the procurement conditions also influence the sales price.
