Yes should be compatible. I recommend updating the BIOS of the mainboard to the latest version before installing. Since you only have one RAM module now, I recommend removing it and replacing it with the two from here. This should result in much faster performance than having three modules (two or four modules is ideal). Put the modules in the same coloured slots.

In my opinion, the Compaq CQ5315CH only supports up to 4GB RAM in total. The best solution would be 2x2GB bars

No. You need SO-DIMM 204 modules and not DIMM 240 modules, which are intended for desktop computers. For example, the following product: Kingston Value RAM (2x, 8GB, DDR3-1600, SODIMM 204)
