The enclosure supports M.2 form factors including M.2 2280, which matches the WD SN850X size. However, the WD SN850X with heatsink has a thickness of approximately 8.8 mm, while typical M.2 enclosures, including this one, are designed for standard M.2 SSD thickness without heatsinks. Therefore, the WD SN850X with heatsink will not fit inside this enclosure due to the heatsink's added height. The enclosure is compatible with M.2 SSDs without heatsinks only.

The WD SN850X SSD is compatible with the IB-1817M-C31 enclosure because it supports the M.2 2280 form factor, which is one of the sizes the enclosure accommodates. The enclosure is designed for M.2 NVMe SSDs, and the WD SN850X is an M.2 NVMe SSD, making it suitable for use with this enclosure.

The IB-1817M-C31 from Icy Box supports a PCIe 3.0 x2 interface for the SSD. You cannot operate a PCIe 5.0 SSD at full speed with this device, as the maximum support is PCIe 3.0 x2 and the speed is therefore limited to up to 10 Gbit/s (or about 1000 MB/s).

You simply take the Samsung 980 Pro without a heat sink. You can also get it in this case, because it takes over the function as a heat sink. So you don't have to worry. https://raidsonic-static-content.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/IcyBox/Files/manual_IB-1817M-C31_Web.pdf

I don't quite understand the question: If you have an NVMe port in your PC, you can clone your HDD/SSD directly to it. You don't need the enclosure for that. However, you can clone any HDD/SSD there if it is connected as a USB drive.

I have tested a Samsung NVMe MZVLW1T0C, which runs without any problems. This is a PM961 1TB version, which is closely related to Samsung's consumer models. I don't have your 980 PRO available. A Toshiba THNSN5512GPUK_NVMe also runs without problems in the case. What exactly are the problems you mentioned? LG Michael
