Thunderbolt 2 does not support charging, so no.

I think so. My MacbookPro also has Th.1 and worked flawlessly with it, on the MacPro with Thunderbolt 2 everything just runs much smoother.

I don't think the MacBook 2009 has a Thunderbolt port, only a mini Display Port. They look identical, but they are 2 different ports. That's why it can't work either
