Questions about Canon Speedlite EL-5

The flash unit fits Canon cameras with a multi-function shoe, such as the EOS R3, EOS R6 Mark II, EOS R7 and EOS R10. It is not directly compatible with older models such as the EOS R5 or EOS R6, as these have a different type of hotshoe and no adapter is available.

The Canon Speedlite EL-5 is not compatible with the Canon EOS 6D Mark II. This is because the Speedlite EL-5 uses the new Multi-Function Shoe, which is only compatible with selected Canon EOS R Series camera bodies such as the EOS R6 Mark II, EOS R7, EOS R10 and EOS R3 and not with older cameras that use a different hot shoe design. The Canon EOS 6D Mark II would require a different flash unit that is compatible with the older hot shoe design. An example of this would be the Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT or the Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT, which are compatible with the EOS 6D Mark II and offer good quality.

According to research, it is possible to attach the Canon Speedlite EL-5 directly to the camera or you can use a transmitter to set up the flash. A compatible transmitter would be the Canon ST-E3-RT, but we do not have this on sale.

The Speedlite EL-5 is not compatible with the hot shoe of the Canon EOS R5 camera. The Speedlite EL-5 requires a Multi-Function Shoe, which the EOS R5 does not have. There are no adapters that convert the old EOS R5 hot shoe into the new Multi-Function Shoe.
