I think if this is possible, you will soon be at a new device with the price... better pay more then you really have an Apple warranty. For example, in the first year, if the device is defective, Apple will replace it directly. That is not the case here with an extension.

I have used the same service (at varying costs) across the globe from Asia to USA and it always works. As I say you will see the costs of the various data packages when you go into the mobile section of your settings. There is the ACCOUNT section which will show you what mobile packages you can buy. This is normally defined by Region and so the pricing is predictable. I find this works really well and would recommend it.
