This NeoPixel is equipped with a small RGB LED (5x5mm). The LED is already soldered to a small circuit board so that it can also be easily soldered to the control strands. Several NeoPixels can be switched one after the other and each LED can be easily controlled via a microcontroller, e.g. Arduino UNO, Mega, Nano etc. via an output. There are also many programming examples. Just search for NeoPixel or WS2812.
