Principles of memory configuration:
Each CPU has 4 memory channels with 3 memory slots each. ECC DIMMs, Registered DIMMs, and Load Reduced LRDIMMs must not be mixed. Therefore, when upgrading, you should know which memory is already installed or upgrade completely to RDIMM or LRDIMM memory. When using ECC UDIMM memory, only 2 out of 3 memory slots per memory channel can be populated. Memory slots without a processor present must not be populated. Higher memory frequencies may adjust to other memory clock rates in the system environment and support correspondingly slower clock rates. Low Voltage memory with 1.35V will be clocked at 1.5V when mixed with 1.5V memory due to the fallback option present in the memory.

Memory configuration for good system performance:
Distribute the memory evenly across the memory slots and evenly across the CPUs. If more than one CPU is present, the memory should be configured identically (mirrored to the other CPU) per CPU.
