Special optical glass, including three ED glass elements, and excellent coatings ensure very good contrast performance, consistent sharpness even at the edges, and particularly clear reproduction of fine details. In addition to the outstanding imaging characteristics, PENTAX engineers have also elevated the mechanical properties of this lens to top level. Built-in ultrasonic motors in the lenses provide a quiet and fast autofocus drive. Furthermore, this lens is weather-resistant and securely protected against dust ingress thanks to appropriate seals. For the coating of the front lenses, Pentax uses special fluoride compounds, known as SP – "Super Protect" technology. This involves applying a special coating to the front lens. This nano-technology protects the front lens from dust, fingerprints, or greasy residues. If necessary, such contaminants can be easily removed. The Pentax "Quick Shift Focus System" allows the photographer to adjust the focus after automatic sharpness adjustment at any time. This enables direct manual fine-tuning of the focus without having to turn off the autofocus.

Bis auf die mittlerer Brennweite kann das Pentax kaum überzeugen denn sowohl die Verzeichnung als auch die Bildränder machen in der Tat keinen guten Eindruck. Zudem kostet das Objektiv stattliche 1.000 Euro, sodass man hier deutlich mehr erwarten kann.
Die Verarbeitung des Materials sowie des Gehäuses ist ausgezeichnet. Die Bedienelemente sind gut erreichbar und einfach zu bedienen. Jedoch liefert das Objektiv eine niedrige Auflösung mit relevanten Offenblendfehlern. Dagegen sind aber Verzeichnungen ausgewogen und recht gering.
