After a long journey, the dusk witch Dronya and her young apprentice Luca arrive in the distant city of Refrain.

Disguised as a simple traveling puppet theater, Dronya's true goal lies at the heart of the city: the Well of Khalaza. It is said that this well leads to an extensive labyrinth deep beneath the city, filled with wondrous treasures, but also with cruel monsters, deadly traps, and a thick, toxic fog. No one who has entered the well has ever returned, with one exception. The only man who successfully explored the labyrinth and returned alive documented his findings in a book called Tractatus de Monstrum. Now in possession of this book, Dronya plans to use its knowledge and her brigade of enchanted puppet soldiers to conquer the labyrinth for herself, but for what purpose? What secrets does the labyrinth hold? What dark secrets lurk in the shadows of Refrain?
