Pokémon Sun. In keeping with the tradition of earlier games in the Pokémon series, players choose one of three special Pokémon as their first partner. These are among the first Pokémon that players receive in the game. In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, players can choose from the newly discovered Pokémon Rowlet, a Grass/Flying type, Litten, a Fire type, and Popplio, a Water type.

For a Pokémon Trainer, it is important to know the Pokémon types and understand how they battle against each other. Grass-type Pokémon are strong against Water types but weak against Fire types. Fire-type Pokémon are strong against Grass types and weak against Water types. Water-type Pokémon are strong against Fire types but weak against Grass types.
