Product details
The GP106 graphics chip of the GeForce GTX 1060 is manufactured using the 16nm FinFET process and is based on NVIDIA's Pascal GPU architecture. The GeForce GTX 1060 offers improved efficiency and impressive
performance compared to its predecessor from the Maxwell generation. The GeForce GTX 1060 is the mid-range model of the GTX 10 graphics card series and is available with 3 or 6 GB VRAM. The GeForce GTX 1060 is VR-Ready and has an HDMI 2.0b connector.
The MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G has a basic clock speed of 1,594 MHz. With GPU-Boost 3.0 this can be raised to a boost clock of 1.809 MHz if required. The memory clock (in OC mode) is 4,050 MHz (effective 8,100 MHz). When it comes to cooling, MSI relies on a scion of the popular, because very quiet and effective Twin Frozr coolers. In the semi-passive Twin Frozr VI, the rotor blades of the two 10cm Torx fans were reworked, the fresh air blown through large aluminium heat sinks and several nickel-plated heat pipes and even stopped rotating completely below a certain load level, which is why the radiator design then operates absolutely silently.
The black-red GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G from MSI has an LED-lit MSI logo. RGB LED lighting can be set via the MSI Gaming app. The black backplate gives the GTX 1070 additional stability and is decorated with a black-stylized MSI gaming kite.
The GTX 1060's 6GB of GDDR5 video memory is connected to the GPU via a 192-bit memory interface, achieving 192GB/s memory bandwidth. The GP106 graphics chip has 1,280 shader units, which NVIDIA calls CUDA cores.
The GTX 1060 graphics card series supports DirectX 12 and current gaming technologies, including NVIDIA Ansel, Gameworks, Warp, Stereo-X, VR-Audio, PhysX and SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Projection). SMP 4.0 offers great advantages for VR, curved displays and multi-display setups.
Thanks to SMP 4.0 Pascal supports 16 simultaneous viewports, which allow a much more realistic display on several monitors or on curved displays. Especially gaming in Virtual Reality (VR) benefits from the new technology, because two viewports can be rendered in one go. By using multiple viewports, the rendered image also manages with a lower number of calculated pixels.
The GeForce GTX 1060 works with a TDP of only 120 watts and it is recommended to use a power supply with a power of at least 400 watts. The GeForce GTX 1060 has an HDMI 2.0b port, three DisplayPort 1.4 ports and a dual-link DVI output. The HDMI port supports HDCP 2.2 and can send and receive encrypted signals.
To take full advantage of the card's potential, new drivers from NVIDIA or MSI should be downloaded and installed at regular intervals.
