The thermistor relay is used as a protection relay for motors against thermal overload (excessive heating). This heating can occur due to mechanical overload on the shaft or when operating the motor with unacceptable voltages. A thermistor (PTC) is used as a sensor, which is ideally placed on the part of the motor that heats up the most under overload (e.g., integrated into the motor winding).
