If an electrical device is faulty or used incorrectly, it can cause life-threatening electric shocks to the user. For this reason, sockets and circuits in outdoor and damp areas must be protected by an RCD. This 4-pole RCD provides effective protection. It is designed for a maximum current of 40A and the tripping sensitivity is 30mA. An RCD monitors the current flow of electrical systems and the connected devices. If part of the current does not flow via the intended path but is discharged via a person or a defective electrical appliance, the RCD interrupts the power supply within a fraction of a second and thus saves lives in an emergency. The switching position of the green switching toggle shows whether the RCD has switched off manually or as if due to a residual current. If the toggle is down, the RCD has been switched off manually; if it is in the centre, the device has been switched off due to a residual current in the system. To switch the RCD on again, the toggle must first be pressed down before it can be moved back to the on position at the top. The correct selection and installation of the appropriate residual current circuit breaker must be carried out by a qualified electrician on site.
