The design concept of the lamp is based on a triple shade system that directs light downwards and ensures a soft and diffuse light distribution. The lampshade is made of mouth-blown glass, which is opalescent, triple-glazed, and features a glossy exterior and a matte sandblasted interior.

The PH 4½-3½ floor lamp by Louis Poulsen is a timeless design by Poul Henningsen. The reflections of the three nested shades spread out in a logarithmic spiral, directing most of the light downwards. The shade is made of opalescent glass and is part of a series of three lamps developed by Poul Henningsen in collaboration with Louis Poulsen between 1925 and 1926. The light source is not included.

Poul Henningsen has implemented the concept of nested shade design, which was successfully used in the popular design classic PH 5 by Louis Poulsen, in this floor lamp as well. Regardless of the light source used, the glass housing emits a soft light, with a glossy exterior and a matte sandblasted interior. The floor model designed by Poul Henningsen is made from a high-gloss chrome-plated brass-steel combination and rests on a round base with a cascading "collar."
