AJ Eklipta LED Wall/Ceiling Light by Louis Poulsen

AJ Eklipta was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1959 for the town hall in Rødovre. The project produced two different sizes: a diameter of 350 mm and 450 mm. They are used as wall lights on indoor staircases or in outdoor areas. A version with a diameter of 220 mm was later designed for St. Catherine's College in England. When Arne Jacobsen used the accessory himself on the stairs, he always preferred the largest variant. Today, the accessory is used worldwide in a variety of built environments.

Arne Jacobsen was drawn to their different perspectives, such as the interplay of earth, moon, and sun in a straight line on the plane of the ecliptic. Like many designers of his time, Arne Jacobsen was inspired by the emerging space exploration of the late 1950s. In 1959, he designed this ceiling and wall light. The spherical disc and its smaller concave base emit a soft, diffuse light around them. Additionally, a mouth-blown glass shade made of multilayered opal glass provides an evenly illuminated surface. Only its sharp outer edges create light halos around the glass shade.
