Wirewin UTP patch cables are characterized by their high quality and are suitable for Gigabit connections with operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz. Applications for Category 6 cables include voice, multimedia, and data transmission as well as ATM networks. The conductors are made of 100% unshielded copper and the cable features strain relief. The sheath is made from halogen-free materials and is highly flame-retardant. The UTP cable consists of a plastic sheath containing unshielded, twisted pairs of wires. Due to the absence of shielding, UTP cables have a small outer diameter, making them easy to handle and install. The strain relief boots, designed to be particularly slim, allow for comfortable cabling even with larger switches that have 48 ports or more. Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: the dangerous release of halogenated combustion gases is thus excluded, and smoke generation is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also flame-resistant and do not exhibit a dangerous ignition cord effect. These are the most commonly used cables for Ethernet LANs worldwide. Cat 6 cables are designed for operating frequencies up to 250 MHz and are often used in professional settings. Over longer lengths, transmission speed may suffer, but minor excess lengths are generally acceptable depending on external influences. Application areas for Cat 6 include voice and data transmission as well as multimedia and ATM networks.

Patch cable type

The cable type, describes the structure of a network cable. Fiber optic cables are suitable for distribution over longer distances (up to 80 km) and are resistant to interference. Copper cables can be used for distances up to 100 m and are cheaper to purchase.

Contact assignment

The contact assignment provides information on how the network cable can be used. An uncrossed cable can be used to connect terminals to the network, while a crossed cable can be used to connect two terminals.
