Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of the scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you cannot fully control the light, such as in bright, high-contrast landscapes. Underexposing the foreground results in a washed-out and overexposed sky, while underexposing the sky leads to a dark and underexposed foreground. Lee's graduated gray ND filters are transparent and have a neutral density in parts. They allow the transition to blend seamlessly into the scene. NDs ranging from 0.75 to transparent with a difference of two and a half stops generally compensate for average situations with bright skies and foregrounds and are also the most popular burst densities. Lee's graduated resin filters are 100 × 150 mm in size and 2 mm thick. The length of 150 mm allows for adjustment of the filter in the holder.
