The idea for this elegant lamp in the shape of an ellipsoid was brought back from Sweden by George Nelson in 1952, where he had seen a similar model as a silk lamp. To reduce costs, he chose a material that was used by the Army for covering warships. This resulted in this beautiful model, which has been equipped with modern LED technology by Hay. The dynamic shape is created by the steel wire over which the polymer fabric is stretched. You can choose from different sizes. George Nelson (1908-1986) was an American designer and architect who studied at Yale University and the American Academy in Rome. He made a name for himself as a design theorist. In 1947, he founded an industrial design office together with Gordon Chadwick. He received particular recognition for his own designs in the office furniture sector, especially for the Coconut Chair and the Marshmallow Sofa, as well as for his wall and table clocks. He received numerous awards, and his archive is located at the Vitra Design Museum.
