Genelec 8020D Active 2-way speaker, single unit

Genelec has added a RAW – untreated cast surface option for the surface finishes of its aluminum-cased speakers. The now well-established and easily recognizable Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) speaker cabinet is the result of a collaboration between Genelec and Harri Koskinen. The speakers, made from recycled aluminum, are now only available in lightly treated RAW versions, saving the colors used for surface finishing and thus reducing the environmental impact during production. Each speaker features a uniquely stylish matte aluminum surface.

The 8020D is specifically designed for listening environments with limited space. However, its small size does not compromise high-quality performance, as the 8020D utilizes all the technical innovations of the award-winning Genelec 8000 series. The MDE cabinet allows for a very large internal volume relative to the size of the speaker. The molded structure is mechanically robust and acoustically stable, and the gently rounded corners of the cabinet eliminate reflections caused by the sharp edges of the speaker enclosure. The 8020D also features a newly designed Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) shaped around the tweeter, enabling a very even frequency response both on and off the listening axis. A long, curved reflex port ends in an expanding opening at the back of the speaker, achieving exceptionally precise bass reproduction without disruptive turbulence noise. Thanks to these solutions, the stereo imaging accuracy and bass reproduction of the 8020D are remarkably good in relation to the external dimensions of the speaker. The new power supply and automatic energy management have resulted in a very low idle power consumption for the 8020D.
