The aperture ring of the new XF27mmF2.8 R WR features an easily readable scale. Users can quickly grasp the set value at a glance without needing to look through the viewfinder or at the camera's display. A lock function allows the aperture ring to be secured in the "Auto" position to prevent accidental adjustments while shooting. The XF27mmF2.8 R WR is also suitable for use in adverse weather conditions. Seven seals protect the interior of the lens from splashes and dust, ensuring its readiness for use in temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius.

The focal length of the XF27mmF2.8 R WR is nearly identical to the diameter of the image circle required for full coverage of the APS-C sensor (28.4 mm). This allows for an ultra-flat lens with high image quality. The XF27mmF2.8 R WR is among the smallest and lightest lenses in the XF series. It measures only 62 mm in diameter and is exceptionally compact at just 23 mm in length. Additionally, it weighs approximately 84 grams, making it the ideal choice for situations where a compact setup and minimal baggage are desired.

Despite its flat design, the optical construction of the new lens includes seven elements in five groups, including an aspherical lens to correct optical errors such as spherical aberrations and distortion. Due to this design, the XF27mmF2.8 R WR offers high resolution performance, even at fully open aperture. The XF27mmF2.8 R WR is equipped with a powerful AF motor for fast and precise autofocus. Common imaging errors when capturing subjects at close range or in the distance are effectively corrected by the five elements of the front lens group. Thus, high image quality is ensured across the entire focus range.
