Through an innovative lens construction, it has been possible to avoid the optical distortion typically encountered with ultra-wide-angle lenses; thus, digital correction is unnecessary.
This feature contributes to the high resolution performance of the lens all the way to the corners of the image. The optical design consists of 10 elements in 7 groups, including 2 aspherical lenses and 3 ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses. The edges of the seven aperture blades have been rounded to ensure the highest image quality. The lens is equipped with a distance and depth of field scale, allowing for pre-focusing, for example. With a maximum aperture of F2.8, the lens is also suitable for shooting in low light conditions.
The short minimum focusing distance of just 18 cm allows for aesthetically pleasing background blur without losing the perspective characteristics of an ultra-wide-angle lens. The short flange distance of the FUJIFILM X mount effectively prevents vignetting in the corners of the image. Typical image errors, such as distortion and chromatic aberrations, are minimized. This guarantees high resolution performance all the way to the corners of the image.

Mit dem Fujifilm Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 R zeigt sich im Test das beste Objektiv fürs X-Bajonett. Mit seinen 21 mm in Kleinbildformat erhalten vorzugsweise Landschafts- und Architekturfotografen messerscharfe sowie nahezu fehlerfreie Aufnahmen. Die wertige Bauweise und der treffsichere Autofokus lassen ebenfalls kaum Platz für Kritik. Lediglich ein Witterungsschutz könnte manch Fotograf vermissen.
Das Objektiv zeigt bei offener Blende einen sichtbaren Randabfall bei Auflösung und Kontrast, allerdings fällt er für ein 14er moderat aus. Zudem können die schwächsten Werte , die hier nicht am Rand, sondern bei etwa 60% des maximalen Bildradius liegen, immer noch als akzeptabel gelten. Abgeblendet liefert es eine gleichmäßige Abbildung. Das gute, 800 Euro teure Objektiv ist zu empfehlen.
Das Fujifilm Fujinon XF 2.8/14 mm R behauptet sich im Test als Festbrennweite-Objektiv mit einer herausragender Schärfe und Objektivgüte sowie flottem Autofokus. Nur in Sachen Ausstattung lässt das Weitwinkel zu wünschen übrig. Dennoch kann sich die Linse als Testsieger in seiner Klasse durchsetzen.
