The beginnings of Faber-Castell go back to the year 1761. At that time, the carpenter Kaspar Faber began producing pencils in Stein near Nuremberg, which his wife sold on the Nuremberg market. As early as the 19th century, the foundations for conquering the world market were laid with branches in commercial centres such as New York and Paris. During this time, the company also acquired its current name Faber-Castell through a marriage to a nobleman.

Today, with production facilities in nine countries and over 8,000 employees, the company is the world's largest manufacturer of pencils and coloured pencils and offers an extensive range of stationery and stationery items. The company attaches great importance to social and ecological sustainability. Since 2010, 95 per cent of the wood used has been certified in accordance with the strict FSC requirements and, thanks to the company's own forests, Faber-Castell is one of the few companies in the writing instruments industry to be certified as climate-neutral.
