Let the light shine in the right places!

Living room lighting fundamentally serves two functions: it should support us in our daily lives by providing brightness and preventing our eyes from getting tired quickly. Additionally, it should create the appropriate atmosphere in the rooms.

Today's lighting technology offers countless possibilities and ideas. However, careful planning is essential for implementation. This begins with having a sufficient number of power outlets and wall connections.

First, the room receives good basic lighting, which is controlled by a switch directly at the door. After that, attention is turned to the desired ambiance: art objects, reading areas, communication zones, or workspaces are each illuminated with special lighting, giving the room contours through different brightness levels.

Direct and indirect lighting

Direct light – such as the flame of a candle – evokes pleasant sensations, but it has the disadvantage of being poorly shielded and falling directly into the eyes.

For this reason, indirect light should be preferred, meaning a shielded light source that is reflected by walls and ceilings. To ensure that the light casts a wide beam, it should be installed at a sufficient distance from the illuminated surface. Wall washers should also be mounted at a height of at least 170 cm so that the light source is above eye level. Lastly, the use of floodlights in small or low rooms should be carefully planned, as they may otherwise fail to have the desired effect.
