Show more The keyboard, which can still be called an insider tip in the scene, is a brand of the Metadot Corporation and produces very high-quality and innovative mechanical keyboards under the German-English name combination (this "foreign branding" is often used for premium products to emphasize the uniqueness). The company, based in Austin, Texas, has been producing groundbreaking technology optimized for everyday use in the input device segment since 2005 and is consistently praised by the trade press. The current revision, Das Keyboard 4, complements the very successful S model series (Das Keyboard 3) with useful features. The mechanical keyboard has been upgraded once again in terms of appearance and function and represents a particularly high-quality and flexible solution for both gamers and office users. The characteristic appearance with the widened chassis in the num block still makes the brand affiliation immediately recognizable. The media keys are clearly thought out in design and function and are in the form of micro switches with a good pressure point and minimal travel. The connections of the USB hub are no longer on the side of the Das Keyboard 4, but on the back - this makes cable routing easier. The USB 3.0 connection provides connected devices with a high bandwidth (up to 5 Gbit/s) and supplies up to 900 mA of power. The noble haptics and the easy grid of the volume dial allow direct and precise control of the volume function. The connection to the surface of the Das Keyboard 4 is taken over by a magnetic baseboard instead of the usual plastic feet, which also serves as a ruler. This allows a secure hold and an ideal placement angle of 4 degrees. Metadot uses a total of 14 connection points to unite the aluminum upper shell and plastic chassis. This measure and the cohesion of PCB and chassis with screws have a noticeable effect on the typing feel, reduce the noise when typing and underline the high build quality. The keycaps of the keyboard are not labeled in the Ultimate variant, so they are designed for real experts and purists. The additional function of 100% anti-ghosting with full key rollover - i.e. all keys are recognized simultaneously via USB - and the lightning-fast sampling rate of 1 ms (1,000 samples per second) is handled by a Nuvoton controller with Cortex-M0 processor in the Das Keyboard 4, ensuring that the keyboard is up to any challenge - whether in a heated battle or with complicated key sequences in work use. The Keyboard 4 uses mechanical Cherry MX switches of different variants, whereby Cherry's tactile MX-Brown is used in the version offered here, which noticeably feedback the contact release with its slight resistance, but also allow multiple clicks in quick succession and therefore represent the ideal compromise between gaming and typing. The process remains silent, so no clicking noise is triggered and thus the office peace isn't endangered. The variant offered here is the EU version in the Ultimate version, which is equipped with 105 keys without lettering and five additional multimedia keys.
