Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: the dangerous release of halogenated combustion gases is thus excluded, and smoke generation is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also flame-retardant and do not exhibit a dangerous ignition cord effect. Screened Foiled Twisted Pair (S/FTP) refers to cables that have a metallic shield around each pair of wires (FTP) and an additional overall metallic shield (S). Shielded cables show little impedance or reactance deviation compared to unshielded ones. The transmission parameters remain relatively constant even at high frequencies and are better than those of UTP cables. Category 6A. Category 6 augmented (Cat 6A) is a standard that arises from the increased bandwidth requirements of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10 GBASE-T). Cat 6A cables are designed for transmission frequencies up to 500 MHz and distances up to 100 m, and are backward compatible with existing categories.
