The game is based on the pen-and-paper role-playing game Cyberpunk 2020 from 1990. According to the developers, its creator Mike Pondsmith is closely collaborating with the game designers. The system of Cyberpunk 2020 has been specifically adapted to fit a modern role-playing game. The title takes place in the sandbox environment of the metropolis Night City. The game's story is aimed at an adult audience, is non-linear, and offers multiple storylines. Additionally, the developers promise a wide variety of weapons, equipment, and implants to enhance your character.

PS5 Compatibility:
Cyberpunk 2077 will be backward compatible on the next-gen console (PlayStation 5). The PS4 version will work on PS5 from the release date of the new consoles. A later upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 will fully utilize the hardware potential of the next-gen consoles and will be free for owners of the current-gen versions (PS4, PS4 Pro).
