The limitless creativity of the inspiring collaborations chosen by our Maison continually reinterprets it. Thus, the surface of the 849 becomes a playground for the greatest designers, stylists, and artists. Maison Caran d’Ache, Vitra, and the Girard Studio aimed to adorn the 849 with the cheerful cult motifs of Alexander Girard. The result is the limited edition Alexander Girard. The versatile Girard revolutionized and shaped 20th-century design with his distinctive graphic aesthetic and colorful patterns on everyday objects. He loved textures, motifs, and folk art, and he also collected writing instruments that allowed him to express his creativity.

The two 849 pens feature motifs from the collections of the Vitra Design Museum, which houses the designer's archives. The 849 in rose and white is adorned with the cheerful "Check Stripes" that Alexander Girard designed for decorative panels or fabrics. On the 849 in black and white, we see the "Double Triangle" motif, intended for fabrics or wallpapers.
