Das sehr gut verarbeitete Objektiv ist auch aufgrund des Schiebemechanismus etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig aber nach einiger Zeit doch sehr hilfreich. Das Handling ist ebenfalls recht gut, sodass das schon altbekannte Objektiv noch immer unter die besten seiner Klasse gehört, wobei allerdings die Nahgrenze nicht mehr ganz zeitgemäß ist.

Obwohl das Objektiv sehr teuer ist, kann es nicht richtig überzeugen und hat besonders bei den Bildrändern deutliche Defizite. Im mittleren Bereich arbeitet es zwar zuverlässig sowie gleichmäßig aber bei einem derart hohen Preis sollte man mehr erwarten können und das auch vom Platzhirschen Canon.

Das Canon Objektiv zeichnet sich durch seine sehr robuste Bauweise aus und vermittelt hier Profiqualität. Ebenso überzeugend ist die umfangreiche Ausstattung des Zoomobjektivs. Die Bildqualität zeigt sich auf einem prima Niveau, bei 5,6/300 mm werden aber deutliche Schwächen offensichtlich.
