B+W Infrared Filter

The B+W Infrared Filter is the specialized filter for extreme contrasts. This filter allows you to take advantage of the existing residual sensitivity for experimental black-and-white photos with high contrasts.

Green leaves and grasses are rendered from bright to white. A "wood effect" with a dramatic contrast between clouds and sky can be achieved.

Practical Tips

  • The IR effect only occurs in bright light.
  • Set the image sharpness before attaching the filter.
  • Pay attention to the infrared engraving (if available) on the lens.
  • Choose a small aperture.
  • Determine the exposure time through a test series.
  • Use a tripod due to the long exposure times.

Note

  • Check the IR compatibility of your camera. Point the IR remote control towards the camera and press a function button. If a white light spot appears on the camera monitor, the camera sensor has sufficient residual sensitivity.
  • IR images must be optimized in the image program afterwards.
  • Convert the color image to black and white.
  • Increase contrasts automatically, preferably using a histogram.

IR Red Dark 695 (092)

This less intense infrared filter does not block the entire visible light spectrum and allows for shots with both visible and invisible IR components. The black-and-white contrasts are not as high.
