The sustain of a metallophone is significantly longer than that of other bar instruments, such as xylophones or glockenspiels. To allow you to shorten the sustain, metallophones are equipped with a damping mechanism. The large aluminum sound bars of this metallophone produce nine semitones (C#, D#, F#, G#, B, C1, D1, F1, G1). Therefore, it can be used as a chromatic addition. The switchable damping mechanism allows you to control the sustain - with the damping engaged, it is reduced by about half.
