BeagleBone Black Rev C Pre-installed Debian
Product details
If you liked the BeagleBone Black Rev B, you will love the Rev C! The Rev C still features a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of onboard DDR3 RAM. Like its predecessor, it has an AM3359 microprocessor, two 46-pin headers, Micro HDMI for audio/video output, USB ports, 10/100 Ethernet, and other I/O features. The Rev C is a powerful embedded computer that fits in a coin-sized case.
The new model includes 4 GB of eMMC onboard storage instead of the 2 GB found in the Rev B. With the doubled storage and faster eMMC, the developers made the most significant change in the Rev C: the BeagleBone Black now comes with pre-installed Debian Linux instead of Angstrom Linux. Debian Linux is a more user-friendly operating system than Angstrom, and the switch to Debian is partly a response to consumer demand, especially from Adafruit users.
Of course, the BeagleBone Black Rev C is an open board. So if you want to load it with Angstrom or other Linux-based distributions like Ubuntu or Android, you can do that.
The Rev C comes with a mini-B cable to power it up as quickly as possible. A microSD card is not included since the BBB has built-in flash storage and does not require an SD card to be loaded. For this revision, CircuitCo has also partnered with Element14 to help meet some of the demand. The new BeagleBone Black Rev C is shipped with Debian Linux featuring the 3.8.13 kernel.
