Sword Art Online is originally based on a novel by Reki Kawahara and is a celebrated anime series that follows the adventures of its young protagonist Kirito in the next-generation massively multiplayer online role-playing game known as Sword Art Online.

This latest entry in the series is based on a brand-new "War of Underworld" storyline that is unique to this game and features more characters and episodes than ever before, creating an environment that differs from that of the source material and the anime.

The threat of annihilation looms closer for Underworld, a virtual world designed to give birth to the highest AI named Alice. The "final stress test" marked the beginning of the end. The gate separating the realm of humans from the Dark Territory has been thrown open, casting the shadow of war over both realms.

At this very moment, a dark knight, accompanied by a young girl, storms through the gate before Kirito and his companions.
