Founded in 1946 as Zweckform Schreibwaren und Bürobedarfs GmbH, the company initially produced successful forms and carbonless books, later expanding to receipt pads and other office supplies. In 1956, it entered into a licensing agreement with the label company of American Stan Avery, who had developed the world's first self-adhesive labels over 20 years earlier.
