Artemide Stellar Nebula - Floor

For the Stellar Nebula lighting family, the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) draws on traditional glassblowing craftsmanship and reinterprets it with innovative PVD finishing techniques. The values, tasks, and boundaries of industrial and artisanal production were at the core of this project idea, which aimed to find a solution for industrial uniqueness. The result is a spectacular design that combines artisanal expertise and industrial innovation in the beauty of the material. The lamp body is blown into a mold and then reheated in the oven until the crystal glass almost melts again, producing the individual, natural shape that makes each lamp a true one-of-a-kind. A dichroic metal finish is then applied in a vacuum. This creates an additional random effect: when switched on, Stellar Nebula resembles an iridescent soap bubble, while when switched off, the lamp body appears clear like a raindrop. This effect is achieved through a sustainable and emission-free process using only 5 percent solvent, whereas conventional methods use 75 percent. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and innovative technology enhances the magical interaction between glass and light, making Stellar Nebula a true eye-catcher.
