Mafia III takes place in the open world of New Bordeaux, a fictional version of the turbulent New Orleans of 1968, complete with era-inspired cars, fashion, and music. After years of fighting in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay has come to understand one thing: family is not what you are born into – it is the people you would die for. Back in his hometown of New Bordeaux, Lincoln wants to leave his criminal past behind. However, when his surrogate family, the Black Mob, is betrayed and murdered by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family from the ruins of his old world and embarks on a military-scale quest for revenge against those responsible. To survive in the streets of New Bordeaux, one must master wild shootouts, brutal fistfights, high-speed maneuvers, tough decisions, and street tricks. But with the right people, you can rise to the top of the city's underworld.

Das Warten hat ein Ende, endlich können Fans der Serie den dritten Teil der Action-Serie spielen. Sie werden bei Mafia III mit einer tollen weil sehr dichten Atmosphäre voll auf ihre Kosten kommen, ebenso wie die gute Story und der sehr gute Soundtrack zu nennen sind. Leider verspielt Mafia III jedoch viel Kredit mit den unfassbar schwachen Gegner-KIs...

Mafia 3 ist ambitioniert. Doch Hangar 13 hat sich vollkommen überhoben. Während die Zwischensequenzen mit zum Besten gehören, was man derzeit neben Uncharted 4 genießen kann und die Rachemär zwar nicht außergewöhnlich ist, aber dennoch stimmungsvoll erzählt wird, bleibt das Spiel in der offenen Welt nach anfänglicher Euphorie zunehmend hinter den Erwartungen zurück...

Das ist auch die Kernaussage zu dem Spiel: Mafia 3 hat seine Momente. Leider nicht so viele, sie liegen weit auseinander und dazwischen gibt es viele, viele uninspirierte Missionen, die von einer praktisch nicht vorhandenen KI und komplett aus dem Ruder gelaufenen Stealth-Übermacht torpediert werden...
