Mafia III takes place in the open world of New Bordeaux, a reimagined version of the turbulent New Orleans of 1968, complete with era-inspired cars, fashion, and music. After years of fighting in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay has come to understand one thing: family is not about who you were born to – it's about the people you would die for. Back in his hometown of New Bordeaux, Lincoln wants to leave his criminal past behind. To survive in the streets of New Bordeaux, one must master wild shootouts, brutal fistfights, high-speed maneuvers, tough decisions, and street tricks. Lange mussten die Fans der Serie warten, nun ist Mafia III jedoch auf dem Markt. Leider wird dieser Titel jedoch nicht alle Fans durchweg überzeugen können. Auf der einen Seite brilliert der Titel mit seiner sehr guten und dichten Atmosphäre, zumal auch die gute Story und der sehr gelungene Soundtrack als Stärken zu nennen sind...
Mafia 3 ist ambitioniert. Doch Hangar 13 hat sich vollkommen überhoben. Während die Zwischensequenzen mit zum Besten gehören, was man derzeit neben Uncharted 4 genießen kann und die Rachemär zwar nicht außergewöhnlich ist, aber dennoch stimmungsvoll erzählt wird, bleibt das Spiel in der offenen Welt nach anfänglicher Euphorie zunehmend hinter den Erwartungen zurück...
Das ist auch die Kernaussage zu dem Spiel: Mafia 3 hat seine Momente. Leider nicht so viele, sie liegen weit auseinander und dazwischen gibt es viele, viele uninspirierte Missionen, die von einer praktisch nicht vorhandenen KI und komplett aus dem Ruder gelaufenen Stealth-Übermacht torpediert werden...
