Is it possible to update the Garmin devices under Linux?

statement from Garmin regarding this:
Garmin does not currently offer compatible software for Linux or derivatives. Available Garmin software requires either a Windows or MAC operating system to install.

A map or device software update is therefore not possible on Linux.

Future compatibility is not known at this time.
