Does anyone have a recommendation for good external antennas for this device?

I think so, in any case the LTE antennas are supplied separately, which means you have to install them yourself, see here:

WLAN has no external antenna.
Presumably the LTE antennas have an SMA connector, like here:
Delock LTE Antenna SMA (LTE/HSPA/GSM Antenna)
