No 5G wit Swisscom SIM

Doesn't support Swisscom 5G , doesn't support 5G in dual SIM modus . How come Digitec didn't mentioned such a software feature ? I will return the phone , I use Swisscom and not Sunrise and such a loss of feature must be written .

    Sure i have 5G...Oneplus doesn't support all sim in 5G , Sunrise is supported but no Swisscom .5G can only be used with one Sim inserted and activated , with 2 Sim the phone turn off 5G and set connection to 4G on both sim . An update from Qualcomm should fix the issue , but its not mention when the update will be released. This is probably the reason why all Snap865 devices are shipped with Single sim only in EU .
    @digitec team , please advice customer about the issue . Thanks

    It has been reported that Sunrise customers have the possibility to select 5G in the phone settings but don't get any 5G connection either... Even with the Sunrise 5G option activated.

    Totally agree, digitec should warm
    customer about this!

    Leider funktioniert 5G (Swisscom inkl.

    WiFi Calling wäre mir am allerwichtigsten.

    @Noepi I followed the tutorial (had just a couple of issues but managed to go through them) and I was indeed able to activate the 5G on my Oneplus 8 Pro with Swisscom. I live in a 5G area and the signal is dope ;)

    I made
    a speed test and results are :
    -> download : 184 Mbps
    -> upload 37.1 Mbps

    That's quite sick :P

    What about you guys?

  • avatar

    5 years ago

    On a second test, results were even better :
    -> download : 235 Mbps
    -> upload 45.4 Mbps

    I don't remember having this speed even on the best ethernet connexion I have ever used in my life *_*

    Well regarding the comments above I might probably still being on 4G+ with just the 5G logo ... :(
    I didn't know I could expect to have up to 400 to 500 Mbs with 5G.
    I know there's a 5G antenna in Gland near where I live,
    I will try to go around the train station and see what I can get from there

    Indeed in cellmapper it says NOT_RESTRICTED instead of CONNECTED for the 5G status, so yes I am just having the 5G logo but I am still in LTE...

  • avatar

    This is what I found regarding Swisscom :

    "For technical reasons, a 5G device may display the 5G network icon even though it cannot use 5G in that situation and is actually connected to 4G. This effect is not unique to
    the Swisscom network, but due to the current developmental state of the mobile communications standard. The effect occurs in particular in first-generation 5G devices that cannot take advantage of nationwide 5G coverage and only support 5G+. However, customers possessing such devices always benefit from the best available network utilisable by their device."

  • avatar

    So the only way for me to be sure that I actually was able to set the phone correctly is to go to a 5G+ area and see how the device behaves. If indeed I am able to connect to the 5G+ that will mean that I can only connect to such a specific network and therefore, even by living in a regular 5G area, I can only have access to LTE and if that is the case, well I guess Digitec you must stop selling it as 5G device if in fact it is not compatible with the main carrier in Switzerland ...

    You can manipulate the configuration and yes, that allows the Oneplus to work on 5G - I managed to get 920 MB/s download speeds,. However, on every software update that Oneplus distributes, you have to reapply the configuration - something that should work from scratch. Changing the configuration is very painful and something most users are not vapable off. I agree digitec should be very transparent about 5G capabilities of oneplus devices. It is not fair to sell a phone at 5G prices knowing it doesn't work for Swiss users.

    @CH3riOs I used instructions in https://mt-tech.fi/en... My specific version of QPST is 2.7 Build 474 and the configuration file i used was the o2_5g_carrier_policy.xml carrier file, which I renamed to carrier_policy.xml before uploading. A really painful process that I now have to redo as I applied the last OTA.

  • avatar

    @Deepsync

    I tried this process already with the issues I'm talking about above. I have 5G logo but in fact behind it's LTE and not 5G.
    My Cellmaper 5G status shows NOT_RESTRICTED while it should be CONNECTED. I live in
    a 5G covered area so I should be able to connect.

    Would you mind sharing your xml file with me? I can give it try see if it would work better.

    My Oneplus Pro 8 model is IN2023 and my carrier is Swisscom

    Please follow the steps here :

    https://mt-tech.fi/en...

    The two XML files is already with open 5G here :

    https://www.mediafire.com/file...

    Just
    download the zip file and replace the 2 files with the 2 files in the policy man using QPST , you can download QPST from here :

    https://www.mediafire.com/file....

    I hope OnePlus add this to the next update and help the customers in better way .

    It worked with me after this straight away now i can see 5G and feel the fast internet speed.

    @Giggig01 I had the same issue. You need to add the port manually. For that go in your windows device manager and look for Port COM & LPT, inside that group you should see Qualcomm HS-USB (if your qualcomm drivers was installed correctly).

    Then double click on that device, a window will popup and at the top center of the window it should be written the name of the device and between parentheses the name of the USB port used by it. It should be COM and a number, like COM1 for example.

    Once you have that, go back to QPST, click on the button "Add new port" and in the opening window in "Port" and "Port label", type in both your USB port name.

    Press OK, the you should see your device there

    5G und Dual SIM scheint generell nicht so wirklich zu gehen mit dem Snapdragon 865, siehe unten: https://www.phonearena.com/news...

    Beim Oppo Find X2 haben sie den zweiten
    SIM-slot gleich weggelassen, oder eher ... unzugänglich gemacht. Blame Qualcomm würde ich mal sagen.

    Hi Spiros. I bought the OnePlus 8 Pro some weeks ago and had to edit the bands file has well. Now 5G is available on my phone. Can't help with dual SIM case as I'm using only the slot 1.

    @orphanos.y thanks for the reply. In order to edit the bands file did you had to make any change on the phone that makes it out of warranty? (like installing custom apk etc)

  • avatar
    orphanos.y

    4 years ago

    Not especially. I installed EngineerMode apk but once the bands file has been edited, you can simply remove this app. It is just needed to switch Rndis and diag. Without this change, you will not be able to make QPST working.
    Anyway, an APK installation will not cancel your warranty. I mean you're not rooting your phone but simply installing an app. And in case, keep a copy of your carrier_polixy.xml. BTW, in case of an update, you changes in carrier_polixy.xml will be overwritten.
    Καλό απόγευμα.

    Hello guys. Since last weekend, Oxgen 11 stable version has been released. My OnePlus 8 Pro has been updated and the 5g has been fixed. I mean I can by default select 2G/3G/4G/5G (automatic) in the favorite network. Check if an update is available on your phone too.
    PS: I'm using Sunrise but no 5G available in my region for now so I didn't tested it yet.
