My tireless journey for a suitable docking station has finally come to an end!
My requirements for a docking station:
- USB-C with charging capability
- USB-A (3.0) to connect to older laptops (business laptop and my wife's laptop don't yet have USB-C)
- RJ-45 with Gigabit
- USB-C
- Connection to monitor (no matter if HDMI or VGA)
I had tried about 3-4 docking stations. Either they did not work with USB-A 3.0 or but the charge was too weak although specifications of the docking station with specifications of the laptop matched in each case.
Tested docking stations:
- HP Docking Station Basic 200W Thunderbolt 3 (wrong connector cable, my fault).
- Kensington SD4600P (charging function kept failing and USB-A connection not possible even with transition cable)
- Dell Docking Station D6000 (charging function did not work despite matching specifications with power supply).
My laptop: Porsche Design BOOK ONE.
When connecting to older laptops without USB-C I needed some time (hence deduction in stars). Since I can give the following tips:
- Download the latest driver for the docking station from Lenovo website (https://www.lenovo.com/support) -> especially important for RJ-45 driver
- Download the latest Display Link software from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads
- If the monitor still doesn't work via HDMI: It worked for me after I connected a VGA to HDMI adapter in between and connected the monitor via VGA. Unfortunately I can't give any information about newer monitors that don't have a VGA connection.

Rating for use under Linux (Ubuntu 19.04)
Power supply and USB (mouse, keyboard) work right away.
But an additional monitor does not.
This requires the proprietary sotware from DisplayLink.
Available for Ubuntu, installation without problems.
Unfortunately, 150% CPU usage is displayed when you move a terminal on the monitor.
Installation of nv drivers did not help either.

Very satisfied, works as desired so far

I previously had the Lenovo USB-C Dock 90W, which and my T480 were a team. The new docking station, on the other hand, only connects to my laptop after it has been plugged in and unplugged several times.

Does not work together with Thinkpad X1, always crashes
