Valve announces new "Half-Life: Alyx" in VR
Valve has announced "Half-Life: Alyx", the next game in the Half-Life series, on Twitter. Details are expected to be released this week and the game will be available exclusively in VR.
According to Valve's official Twitter account, the latest Half-Life, "Half-Life: Alyx", will be unveiled this Thursday at 7pm. Although the rumour has been doing the rounds for a long time, it will be a VR-only game. Whether Half-Life fans can come to terms with this remains to be seen.
Only for Index?
It is not yet known whether the game will be released exclusively for the Index, Valve's own VR headset. However, this is highly unlikely as the Index is not yet so widely used and Valve has collaborated with HTC on their own headset, the Vive. Either way, the news is hugely popular and is being retweeted diligently. Half-Life aficionados and first-person shooter fans will hardly be able to sleep soundly until details about the game are announced on Thursday 21 November at 7 p.m.
Good things take time
Since the last Half-Life, "Half-Life 2: Episode Two", in October 2007, fans of the first-person shooter series have been waiting for a sequel. The game, or rather the entire Half-Life series, is one of the most popular shooters ever. The title, which alludes to the half-life from nuclear physics, is intended to explain the science fiction setting of the game on the one hand, but also to demonstrate its complexity on the other. The developers wanted to distance themselves from shooting gallery games such as "Quake" and encourage players to think.
