V-Coptr: propellers in wonderland

Most drones have four propellers, but two are also sufficient. With its V-Coptr, Zero Zero has chosen to apply this concept.

Chinese company Zero Zero Robotics has developed the V-Coptr, a drone with just two propellers instead of the usual four. The advantages? A drone that consumes less electricity and can therefore fly for longer. According to the manufacturer, flight time is 50 minutes in favourable conditions, twice as long as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

On the other hand, when it comes to stability, manoeuvrability and other flight characteristics, there's a question mark. The V-Coptr has propellers that each rotate on their own axis, and can be tilted forward to cause acceleration.

The drone's camera is also very stable.

The drone's camera is nothing special: small 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel sensor, f/2.2 aperture and framing equivalent to 28mm in small format. As well as JPEG, the camera can also take DNG photos. What's more, it supports 4K, but only at 30 fps, not forgetting full HD, but at up to 120 fps. The V-Coptr weighs in at 730g.

This drone can be ordered from Zero Zero; it should be available from February 2020 for $999, of which $100 is upfront.

My interest in IT and writing landed me in tech journalism early on (2000). I want to know how we can use technology without being used. Outside of the office, I’m a keen musician who makes up for lacking talent with excessive enthusiasm.
