Trailer Tuesday: a Star Wars triple threat, Lion King and Anna

Trailer Tuesday is your guide to the best trailers of the past week. This time: trigger-happy models, fratricide and lion-themed nostalgia, all rounded off by three different spins on «Star Wars».
French director Luc Besson is offering up «Anna», another signature action movie with a strong female lead and a complete disregard for taboos. Jon Favreau is attempting to create a faithful adaptation of a Disney classic with «The Lion King». And finally, «Star Wars Celebration» gave us three new trailer premieres to mercilessly pick apart.
Anna
Anna (Sasha Luss) isn’t just one of Paris’ biggest models, she’s also a contract killer working for the KGB. Which is exactly why she’s being targeted by the CIA. Director Luc Besson is back! After «Lucy», he’s bringing out another movie with a strong female lead with enough firepower and skill to even make John Wick jealous. Along for the ride are experienced actors such as Luke Evans, Cillian Murphy and Helen Mirren.
Release date in Swiss cinemas: 21/6/2019
The Lion King
Oh, the pain of having to relive Mufasa’s (James Earl Jones) death – and this time in stunning HD. The movie is 100% computer-generated, but for some reason it’s still branding itself as a live-action affair. This is what makes the animation so realistic. Is this new version really necessary? What can it do that the original hasn’t already perfected? These questions go unanswered by the trailer. Either way, Hans Zimmer’s epic score is more than enough reason to enjoy this movie in the cinema.
Release date in Swiss cinemas: 18/7/2019
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) blue lightsabre is still whole, Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) is back and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) managed to rebuild his mask. Suddenly, in the final moments of the trailer: the emperor’s evil laughter (Ian McDiarmid). Then, the title of the final movie in the Skywalker saga: The Rise of Skywalker. While the John Williams’ First Order theme quietly plays in the background. Goosebumps. The teaser doesn’t reveal much, but leaves room for more. Much more.
Release date in Swiss cinemas: 14/12/2019
Star Wars: The Clone Wars, season 7
Back in 2008, the pilot episode of «Star Wars: The Clone Wars» was inflated to a feature-length movie. Let’s just say it wasn’t received well by many critics. But the series that followed this failure captured the hearts and minds of more and more fans. After season 5, the writers were told that they were being cancelled: Disney was throwing out all the old Lucasfilm content and making space for new ideas, namely «Star Wars: Rebels». A sixth season was released, but it wasn’t much more than a patchwork Frankenstein of already produced material. It has become known as «The Lost Missions». It’s nice that «Clone Wars» can finally go against expectations and come back full-force. According to the creators of this final season, it’ll be produced just as it had always been imagined.
Start date: Unknown, but the earliest date is 14/11/2019, Disney Plus’ release date.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian
I can’t find a better quality video, but it definitely serves its purpose: actor Pedro Pascal will slip into the role of the titular Mandalorian. He’s a gunslinger, a hero and a mercenary. He decides to spare and protect a child he was originally contracted to kill. The eight-part miniseries details their growing relationship, similar to «Leon the Professional».
Start date: 14/11/2019

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
