The tranquil town of Neuenburg am Rhein (population: approx. 13,000) is set to celebrate its 850th anniversary in 2025. Funnily enough, you could genuinely argue that this year marks the dawn of a new era for the town. Why? Because online retailer Galaxus will soon be opening the first of two logistics centres there. In the medium term, this will make it Neuenburg’s largest employer. The company’s now looking for around 1,000 skilled employees for vacancies in online retail, logistics, technology, human resources, facility management and more.
Galaxus will be operating two warehouses spanning 90,000 square metres of storage space and offices in Neuenburg. A topping-out ceremony was held for the larger of the two warehouses (60,000 square metres) on 5 June. To mark the occasion, Köster, the construction company completing the work, invited all the local tradespeople involved in the project, as well as neighbours, politicians, the media and, thankfully, Galaxus, to a barbecue, drinks and a party. Neuenburg’s mayor, Jens Fondy-Langela, gave a speech in front of the invited guests, in which he reaffirmed the town’s support for the warehouse. He described Neuenburg as an ambitious, vibrant town, keen to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the European market.
«Galaxus is an exciting, future-proof, European employer,» said Michael Stolle. Recruitment for the Neuenburg site is in full swing and the first employment contracts have already been signed. The first of the two warehouses will become operational in October 2025. Located in Neuenburg’s southerly business district, both buildings are pretty much within sight of each other, separated by just metres of footpath. Those interested in applying for a job at the Neuenburg site can browse vacancies on the Galaxus website. Galaxus plans to hire the first 50 employees by the end of this year. The figure is set to increase gradually, reaching up to 1,000 by 2030. There will be job openings for logistics specialists, site coordinators, project managers, logistics team leaders, security and loss prevention specialists, facility management project leads, HR generalists and system administrators.
Construction going as planned, impressive sustainability measures in the works
Michael Stolle’s speech also paid tribute to partner companies, tradespeople, neighbours and local authorities: «Everything’s on schedule so far, and the construction work is going according to plan.» He also emphasised how important sustainability is to Galaxus. The second warehouse will be equipped with a solar panel system with an output of 10 megawatts. This equates to around 70 per cent of the energy that the town of Neuenburg draws from the public electricity grid. A gigantic reversible heat pump is also scheduled to be installed, keeping the warehouses cool in summer, and warm the rest of the year. This will be powered entirely by green energy. But the gigantic theme doesn’t end there – in fact, Munich’s Allianz Arena would fit into the warehouse twice over. Walking around the entire warehouse once equates to a distance of 1.4 kilometres.
