It’s the first time since Windows 7 that Microsoft has increased the system requirements of a new operating system version. What does this mean? Not every PC that’s currently in use will get the free upgrade to Windows 11.

But don't worry, you don't need to buy a new computer. Microsoft will continue to provide Windows 10 with updates until 2025. You'll just have to do without the new design and features of Windows 11.

The minimum requirements of Windows 11

Shortly after presenting Windows 11, Microsoft published the hardware requirements of the new operating system. The minimum requirements are:

Compared to Windows 10, for example, the necessary memory and RAM are doubled. However, this probably only has an impact on very cheap devices. Significantly more devices are likely to fail Windows 11 because they feature an old 32-bit processor or because they lack Trusted Platform Module 2.0, which was only introduced in 2014.

If you’re not sure whether your computer meets the above requirements, Microsoft has a solution for you: install the Windows PC Health Check and it will tell you whether your PC is suitable for Windows 11 or not.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
