These are the game highlights in June

Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI are perhaps the best known, but by no means the only gaming highlights in June.

Who needs Summer Game Fest or Xbox Showcase when the hottest titles are already waiting in the wings? Instead of being dazzled by unrealistic trailers for games that won’t be released for months or years, you can enjoy the following in just a few days or weeks.

Killer Frequency

In this horror game you play a radio host, solving puzzles to save listeners from a killer. While putting on groovy 80s tracks at the same time.

Release date: 1 June
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch, Quest 2

Street Fighter VI

The iconic fighting game series has reached new levels. Among the special features, in addition to various new fighters, is the campaign. In it you’ll actually become a Street Fighter for the first time, levelling up your character in semi-open game areas. The new control modes that trigger combos at the touch of a button are also great. This should make it easier for beginners (meaning me) to pull off spectacular moves.

Release date: 2 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Pile Up!

Pile Up! looks like a relaxing construction game, in which you’ll build tiny houses according to the residents’ wishes. Looks cute, but if you plan it wrong, the whole thing will blow up in your face.

Release date: 2 June
Platform: PC

Diablo IV

The daddy of action role-playing games is back, unleashing hordes of bloodthirsty monsters, bursting at the seams with tasty loot. Deluxe Edition buyers can already start on 2 June.

Release date: 6 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Amnesia: The Bunker

The latest part of the horror series is set in a bunker during the First World War. Once again, the goal is to save the character – in this case French soldier Henri Clément – from terrors in the dark lurking in every corner. Better make sure your tiny torch doesn’t run out of battery. You’ll need strong nerves for this one. After a short delay, the game will now be released in June instead of May.

Release date: 6 June
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series

Bleak Sword DX

In this pocket action adventure, you’ll fight against increasingly terrifying creatures. The game map consists only of a small square. The whole thing is wrapped up in a captivating lofi aesthetic. A clear must-play for me.

Release date: 8 June
Platform: PC, Switch

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie

From the studio behind Life is Strange comes yet another emotional adventure game starring a protagonist with superhuman abilities. This time you’ll be transported to the future, where a megacorporation abuses its power to control the population. Once again, there are countless decisions to make that affect the course of the plot.

Release date: 8 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch

MotoGP 23

The latest offshoot in the long-running racing game series promises a new, dynamic weather system. With sudden changes in the weather, the state of a race can change abruptly.

Release date: 8 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch

Greyhill Incident

This survival horror game exudes a light X-Files vibe. Your neighbourhood is plagued by an alien invasion, and you’ll have to defend yourself with a baseball bat and a revolver.

Release date: 9 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Dordogne

In Dordogne, you’ll explore the titular French region to take photos, record sounds and smells. In doing so, you reflect on your past and decisions you made as an adult. The hand-drawn watercolour style gives the game a unique look.

Release date: 13 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch

Fall of Porcupine

Told from the point of view of anthropomorphic animals, it’s a story about the struggling healthcare system. Fall of Porcupine is livened up by mini-games, such as vegetable ranching, basketball or jump’n’run interludes.

Release date: 15 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch

Heist Kitty: Multiplayer Cat Simulator Game

Similar to Goat Simulator, you get to let off steam with friends in cat form. Join the Purrlice or the Meowfia. With the latter, you plan bank robberies and steal cat treats.

Release date: 15 June
Platform: PC

Layers of Fear

Thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 port, you can experience the first two horror titles including all DLC in new splendour.

Release date: 15 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

F1 23

New year, new entry in this fast-paced racing series. F1 23 promises substantial innovations in the physics system and trumps with new tracks in Las Vegas and Qatar.

Release date: 16 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Park Beyond

There are almost no limits to your creativity in this amusement park simulator. Disneyland looks like a McDonald’s playpen in comparison.

Release date: 16 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Aliens Dark Descent

You control a diverse squad of special forces through an alien-infested world. As a commander, you have numerous tactical abilities and weapons at your disposal. A real-time strategy game which should make for plenty sweaty moments.

Release date: 20 June
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series

Crash Team Rumble

Crash Team Rumble is a kind of 3D platformer where you, a team of four, try to collect more Wumpa fruits than the opposing team. Besides Crash and Coco Bandicoot, you can also play as Dr Neo Cortex. All the characters have unique abilities that need to be combined correctly.

Release date: 20 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Trepang2

If you’re looking for a fast-paced first-person shooter that doesn’t require a retro pixel design for a change, Trepang2 might be worth a look. The gritty, bloody design is reminiscent of Fear, with its slow-motion action interludes.

Release date: 21 June
Platform: PC

Final Fantasy XVI

Fans already know everything about the next Final Fantasy anyway. I don’t count myself among them, but the new action RPG direction and the epic staging look exciting to me as well.

Release date: 21 June
Platform: PS5

Revival: Recolonization

In this 4X strategy game (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) you’ll explore a post-apocalyptic world, conquer enemy cities and expand your empire. If you like Civilization or Age of Wonders, Revival: Recolonization should be right up your alley.

Release date: 28 June
Platform: PC

AEW: Fight Forever

AEW is the second largest wrestling organisation in the USA after WWE. Now they get their own game, with wrestlers giving each other a run for their money in and out of the ring.

Release date: 29 June
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
