The Games Highlights in December

Whether it's gruesome alien monsters, Marvel superheroes or talking guns, the end of 2022 promises to be brilliant. See which games you can look forward to the most here.
Nothing helps better against the winter cold than a few hot games. There are plenty of them in December with "The Callisto Protocol" or "High on Life". And that's just the top of the Christmas tree. Here are the last gaming highlights of the year.
1 December
"The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution"
If you're not tired of zombies yet and you're looking for a potentially entertaining shooter for your VR goggles, you've come to the right place. The sequel once again puts you in the world inspired by the comic book series of the same name, full of musty undead just waiting to be sifted through by your extensive arsenal of weapons.
The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead.
"The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution" is released for Meta Quest 2, PC, PlayStation VR .

"Need for Speed Unbound"
After almost ten years, Criterion is replacing Ghost Games as the studio. The 25th instalment of the racing series once again focuses on tuned street racers with colourful underbody lighting. You engage in breakneck races with the police and work on your reputation. The graphic style is striking. The characters and the visual elements look like in a comic book. If the effects bother you, you can deactivate them in the options. You can soon find out whether the game is still good enough then.
"Need for Speed Unbound" will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC .
"The Callisto Protocol"
"The Callisto Protocol" is the spiritual successor to the space horror game "Dead Space". Many of the people who worked on it at the time are on board. Little has changed in the game principle. Instead of a mechanic on an abandoned spaceship, you play a prisoner in a prison colony. There, nightmarish alien monsters want to nibble on your juicy body. You fight back with your hands - hacking - and feet - stomping. "The Callisto Protocol" promises nerve-wracking horror with over-the-top violence that is definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
"The Callisto Protocol" will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC .
"Marvel's Midnight Suns"
The studio behind "XCOM" ventures into the Marvel universe. You assemble the ultimate superhero team from characters like Iron Man, Ghost Rider and Wolverine. Combat is turn-based, with cards that let you use your abilities. In between, you'll build out the HQ and chat until your head explodes. 65 000 lines of dialogue have been recorded for this. Chances are you'll be able to just talk your opponents to death.
"Marvel's Midnight Suns" will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
6 December
"Dwarf Fortress"
It is considered one of the most complex games ever. For 16 years, the space dwarf simulation has existed in rudimentary ASCII graphics. For the Steam release, the game will receive real pixel textures for the first time. There is even supposed to be a tutorial. Will that be enough to understand this monumental game?
"Dwarf Fortress" will be released for PC
"Hello Neighbor 2"
As in the first part, the aim is to find out what your extremely suspicious neighbour is up to. To do this, you sneak into his house in search of clues. The neighbour is computer-controlled and learns from your behaviour. This makes for thrills and always new surprises.
"Hello Neighbor 2" will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC
8 December
"Chained Echoes"
In this JRPG you can expect an enchanting fantasy world with dragons and mech battle suits. It's all wrapped up in beautiful 16-bit graphics. With your troop of heroes, you travel the vast continent of Valandis to end the war between three kingdoms. You make the acquaintance of legendary air warriors, fight mythical creatures that can hardly be described and solve a few puzzles in between. Apart from the composer, the game is a one-man project.
"Chained Echoes" will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC
9 December
"Choo-Choo Charles"
"Choo-Choo Charles" is not lacking in imagination. You control an old locomotive on a freely explorable island while being chased by a nightmarish spider-train named Charles. I mean, if that's not a must-buy, I don't know what is.
"Choo-Choo Charles" comes out for PC
12 December
"High on Life"
When Justin Roiland, co-creator of "Rick & Morty" is involved, you know what you're in for. An alien cartel wants to turn humans into drugs and get high on them. Your task is to prevent this. You are supported by a series of curious, talking weapons. So there should be no shortage of silly sayings on your journey through wondrous worlds.
"High on Life" will be released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC .
13 December
"Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion"
Shorten the wait for the second part of the "Final Fantasy VII Remake" with the remaster of the prequel. The game was released in 2007 for the Playstation Portable. So a graphical refresh is more than in order. In addition, there is a full dubbing in English and Japanese. The story revolves around Zack Fair, who holds the fate of the planet in his hands. In the remaster, you also learn what connects him to Cloud, the hero from "Final Fantasy VII".
"Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion" will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC
15 December
"Aka"
If there's one game to take your mind off Christmas stress, it's "Aka". You slip into the body of a cuddly red panda. With him, you explore the lovingly designed island, talk to the strange inhabitants, build shelters or tend your garden. For even more relaxation, chill out in your bathtub heated by hot springs.
"Aka" appears on the screen.
"Aka" will be released for Switch and PC .

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
