The first weekend of "Red Dead Redemption 2": 5 answers
Everyone's talking about it: the first weekend since the release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" is now behind us. Things are starting to settle down, and the sometimes high expectations have more or less been met. It's time for the first review.
Rockstar will unveil the online mode of "Red Dead Redemption 2" in November, but even without the multiplayer part, one thing is obvious: the story relies on gameplay and storytelling.
Is "Read Dead Redemption 2" really that great?
Yes. That's not my opinion, but that of the critics in the field. According to Metacritic the specialist press gave an average score of 97% to the game. Apart from Rockstar (with GTA V), only "Super Mario Odyssey" and "Zelda: Breath of the wild" on Switch got such high marks. Gamers seem a little less enthusiastic, giving an average of 75% - there are, however, a not insignificant number of trolls who gave zeros and easily go unnoticed among the other scores.
Has the game sold well?
And how well! According to Rockstar, "Red Dead Redemption 2" has so far grossed $750 million. In figures that works out at: $750,000,000. For a game launch, the record is currently $1 billion and is held by Rockstar with GTA V. According to the producer, RDR 2 is the second game to get off to such a good start. We don't know exactly how much it cost to develop the game, there are only estimates in a fairly wide range between $300 million and $1 billion. In any case, the game is expected to turn a profit by the end of the year.

OK, great. I'm more of a multiplayer guy though. When will I get my money's worth?**
For now Rockstar is sticking to its first release date in November. GTA V's online mode was released a month and a half after the game. So I wouldn't count on a November 1 release. What's more, Rockstar has already announced the release of a beta version as a first step. At first, GTA V's multiplayer mode was unplayable because of the numerous bugs. Rockstar has probably learned from its mistakes, but if I were you, I wouldn't jump into the savagery of the West online until the new year.
I don't have a current console yet and want to enjoy the best quality. Which one should I buy?
Digital Foundry has tested all versions thoroughly and has come to the conclusion that the Xbox One X version offers the best experience. It's the only one to offer true 4K graphics. What's more, Microsoft's console offers the best refresh rate.

What about the PC version?
For now, Rockstar is keeping quiet. There are, however, plenty of hints pointing to a release sometime in 2019. The official smartphone app, for example, mentions a PC version and a developer has indicated that he is working on the PC port of "Red Dead Redemption 2" on his Linkedin profile. Following the success of "GTA Online", a veritable cash cow, we have no doubt that Rockstar will be riding the wave and not shying away from a PC port that is sure to be very lucrative.

The competition has ended.
When I flew the family nest over 15 years ago, I suddenly had to cook for myself. But it wasn’t long until this necessity became a virtue. Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
